Latin America is usually referred to as one of the most violent regions in the world. One of the reasons is due to the spread of so-called criminal organizations. In this lecture Liza Zuniga Collado, analyses the real possibilities for weak and unstable states to control this type of criminality. She outline the evolution and challenges from criminal organizations to Latin American states and societies, as well as the experiences and ways through which these have tried to confront the problem. An overall theme is concerned with the forms of cooperation within and among states that might be needed to find solutions. [ …]
