Free trade, together with foreign investment which it normally follows, has an enormous impact on domestic economies and societies. These impacts are gendered, they affect in differentiated ways different groups of men and women according to their place in society. One classic example is NAFTA and its consequence in Mexico. Another such example, not so well studied, is the FTA between Mexico and the EU that started in the year 2000 and whose updated, modernized version is expected to be approved soon after the new Mexican government comes to power.
