Together with the participants, Karen Benezra (visiting scholar in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Languages and Literatures at New York University) will discuss the introduction and the first chapter of her recently published book Dematerialization: Art and Design in Latin America and focus attention on Oscar Masotta’s definition of the term dematerialization.

The symposium on conceptual art from Latin America “Rethinking Conceptualism: Avant-Garde, Activism and Politics in Latin American Art (1960s-1980s)” has been postponed and will take place from 25th to 26th March 2021 at Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut. Meanwhile, Katerina Valdivia Bruch, artistic director and curator of the project, has started an online programme with workshops and monthly reading sessions.
